reclaiming sacredness and collective ritual: Berlin Performance, April 2025.
“The Master’s House is on Fire” – Ritual Performance
Berlin, April 17th 2024 — An immersive art ritual by Maison Douce | Live score by Lev Radagan.
The walls were sweating when we entered. Low ceiling. Crimson light. Stone floor. It is time. The three Norn performers filling the room with drum sounds and holy smoke. The priestess is carrying the procession banner, the eye that must face its fate. The preacher speaks its sermon, conjuring an old power that had been sleeping for too long:
The Master’s house is on fire, and we say: Let it burn…
And from the flames, we rise
The house that told you to behave. To shrink, To smile.
To stay silent in the face of evil
Breathe, sisters, borthers, siblings
let the wind of resistance fill your lungs
Let the flames take the lies
Let the fire eat the shame
Let the smoke carry the names they tried to bury inside of you
and let them rise like a prayer
We moved in procession. Drums. Smoke. Chanting. Lev’s screaming slide guitar and a sermon from our megaphone filling the room. Primal, industrial, tender. An aching kind of tension. People were with us at this moment. Hands held high. The room became an altar. The priestess spoke
“I am the keeper of fire and the mother of rebellion.
I speak not from pulpits, but from the cracks in the walls.
I bless not the pure, but the wild.”
For i am the mother and the daughter
i am the whore and the holy one
the first one and the last one
We blessed the bats, each with the purpose to smash something that is holding us down.
”with the power of the collective and the cosmic forces, i bless this bat with the power to smash nationalism— racism— patriarchy”
The crowd got blessed too, there were spirits in the room and the archaic power of art that got tamed, rationalised, and sold, showed itself; Ready to let the master’s house tremble.
